Daily Sketch - Day 12

Wouldn't you like it if a bird flew in through your window and delivered an envelope of hearts? It could happen!

Daily Sketch - Day 11

I just had to do more chickens. I don't know why.

It is past the half way mark of the 21-day challenge. Does it feel like a habit yet? Hard to say. I think if I did it at the same time each day it might. Maybe that can be the next challenge.

Daily Sketch - Day 10

A quick one today. Isn't it funny how polar bears look like they are smiling?

Here are some sketch ideas for the Illustration Friday prompt "cracked." Couldn't resist another thought bubble in there.

Daily Sketch - Day 8

Here is today's daily sketch. I started sketching in pen, then used pencil. I like the range of values that are possible with these.

Daily Sketch - Day 4

Today's sketch is made up of separate images that I put together in Photoshop.

Each of these daily sketches has been spontaneous. I don't know what will happen until I start drawing. The idea unfolds as I draw. Characters, objects, etc. emerge. I am intrigued with the fact that we can draw without consciously thinking about it, for example while having a phone conversation. I am often surprised by what I draw while I am talking on the phone. An alternate awareness seems to take over. Also, it's a non-judgmental space. After all, you can't be critical of your work if you aren't thinking about it. Sometimes I try not to think!

By the way, here are some others who have joined the 21-Day challenge:
Becca, Gina, Jenn, and Michelle. Also Mark Frudd is doing weekly sketches at Diary Doodle Books.

Daily Sketch Day 1

Starting today, I am going to post a sketch a day for 21 days.

Many of my illustrator friends took this challenge last year. One of which was Gina who is challenging herself again this week with daily sketches. She inspired me to follow suit.

This challenge was given to NESCBWI 2008 conference goers by author and keynote speaker Laurie Halse Anderson. I wasn't blogging at that time last year, so now is a good time to begin.

The purpose, by the way, is to devote at least 15 minutes a day to your art so that it becomes a habit. Many believe that it takes at least 21 days to develop a habit. Of course, the longer you do it, the more ingrained the habit becomes.

So, here goes! Feel free to comment or to join the challenge!!
